Beatport & John 00 Fleming Collaborate To Curate A New Wave of Trance Music For The Platform

TWO YEARS IN THE MAKING: TRANCE (RAW / DEEP / HYPNOTIC) IS HERE!

Beatport and John 00 Fleming usher in a new chapter in trance’s storied history, as the store launches Trance: Raw/Hypnotic/Deep – their second official subset for the genre. To make the ever-expanding spectrum of trance more fluid, Beatport and John 00 Fleming spent nearly two years discussing this move. Trance’s new naming follows the success Beatport has enjoyed with their similar category Techno: Raw/Deep/Hypnotic, which launched in February 2020. In a further upheaval, Beatport’s other major trance classification has been re-designated as Trance (Main Floor), with the addition of more clarity on the genre’s reach.

As a major authority on electronic music, 00 Fleming saw Beatport’s involvement as crucial to finding artists who make less overt trance music. It was through the platform’s experience with their genre-distinctive Techno’s Raw/Deep/Hypnotic series that they finally found Trance’s solution.

On his push to move, John noted, “The understanding of the word ‘trance’ has been expanding for 30 years and probably won’t stop, making it a tricky area for Beatport to pin down within the established music system, me and others have felt essentially ‘genreless’ for a decade or more. As such, the launch of Trance: Raw, Deep, Hypnotic for me a big win. If I had to pick three adjectives for what real trance music is, I couldn’t do much better than this one! It has literally given a new meaning to what I do!”

In the months leading up to the move, Beatport’s curators worked to bring a significant number of artists and record labels under the new band. John continues, “As Beatport visitors will see, much of my own non-Psy trance output now falls under this Trance: Raw/Deep/Hypnotic category. I hope this will help trance lovers in its purest and most classical form to find the music, artists and labels that appeal to them the most.”
